Abstract
“All the World is Our Stage: primary pupils never lost in translanguaging” celebrates language learning, linguistic diversity and multilingualism. Acknowledging that embedding in the curriculum all the languages that our pupils speak is not feasible, this learning and teaching journey is defined by pupils taking central stage and creating their own multilingual performance. Following a successful delivery as a pilot with three performances in 2018 and 2019, a larger scale roll-out of the project was expected during Languages Week Scotland 2021.
Rapidly adapting to lockdown rules, our decision to transfer the project to virtual world was made. MS Teams has facilitated digital collaboration – from the completion of the preparation activities reflecting on language and identity, to our ongoing pupil-led collaborative work. We keep a flexible approach as restrictions are tightened/eased, and have plans to stream our multilingual performance very soon. Join us for ideas to create your own performance and how it can be pivoted successfully online.
Webinar takeaways:
- explore creative ways of language learning through singing and performance
- raise awareness about multilingualism and improve pupil linguistic awareness
- support teacher practice
- create spaces for home languages to be used in the classroom
- strengthen home–school links with minority language communities
